About Gene Garbowski

The foundation of the philosophy on which my career as an artist was built upon is; “what will work for this customer”. Standing on that, I’ve always been a listener, and that, I know built my unique intuitional and diverse style. To find the visual interpretation of an idea that didn’t come from me has always put the grin on my face because it made the person who’s idea it was smile and feel comfortable with me as the one who will render it in reality. There’s a lot of give and take there until the finished product is accomplished. So, it’s never just my work, but a collaboration that made it happen. People tell me that I’m an incredibly talented artist. It’s just your every day average dedication. You know, 90% perspiration gets it. I have accumulated some awards. American Illustration, Communication Arts Magazine, Print Magazine’s Regional Design Annual (1985), Society of Newspaper Designers and DC Art Directors Club not to mention American Iron and Easyriders magazine have all bestowed honors on my humble work.

My commissioned pieces show a diversity of media from residential and commercial murals in acrylic to fine oil paintings to airbrush automotive. Before the computer era in the early 80’s my airbrush illustrations adorned the pages and section covers of The Washington Times regularly for 5 years. One illustration which appeared on page 1 above the fold showing a red hand with a sickle, from the Soviet hammer and sickle, tearing the map of the US was formerly requested by the Commanding Officer of Military Intelligence at Fort Mead for use in their espionage briefings in the Washington DC area. It was a great honor which I am still proud to talk about. Who would think that a piece of art could contribute to national security and the saving of life and property.

My airbrush work includes one for former US Senator from Colorado, Ben Nighthorse Campbell which lead to 5 consecutive raffle bikes for Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Club famous for the Memorial Day Rolling Thunder rallies on the National Mall in Washington DC. Each one of those bikes raised around a quarter million dollars to promote awareness and achieve actual results in the field of MIA/POW.
I’m very proud of my work (most of it not mentioned here) and the many happy patrons, regular people who have trusted me to bring their ideas to life. I hope that I can continue for a long time bringing quality art to reach more of those hearts and souls who can only appreciate the best I can give.
I’d also like to mention my mobile app drawing game, SwitchDraw.

Recommendation Letter

My wife and I have had the pleasure of knowing Gene for over twenty years. I met Gene at a Maryland biker bar where many custom bikes could be seen on a regular basis and after a short conversation with Gene I found out he was an artist that specialized in custom bikes and cars. He showed me some pictures of his work and I decided that I would like Gene to paint my Harley. We worked together to create a theme for the artwork and what resulted was my first Garbowski masterpiece…………the Triceratops Bike. That year I entered my bike, along with many other Garbowski creations, into the Baltimore Bike Show. Eleven of the trophy winners at that show were painted by Gene. Since then Gene has produced for me and my wife three garage murals, five oil paintings, numerous custom paintwork for my bikes and golf kart, and our favorite -The Imaginarium Room. Not only is Gene a truly talented artist he is a genuinely one of the nicest persons we know and we are very glad we met those years ago and have remained good friends since. Please feel confident that Gene is a pleasure to work with and that his work is amazing.
